If engraved cream heavy cardstock invitations with raised calligraphed lettering or a wedding cake in the shape of a Tiffany’s box are things that get your pulse racing, you’re probably not the sort of bride that will dig my suggestions. Not that there is anything wrong with those things at all, but I’m hoping to pass on some tips, tricks and advice to the more “out of the box” brides who like to mix things up a bit.
The essence of being an anti-bride is that you don’t get all caught up in the little things. Stay true to yourself even though most people will expect you to dive into planning every detail and will offer up a dozen bridal magazines for ideas. Whether you skip the big-to-do and slip off to Vegas or you have a low-key affair, embrace your inner anti-bride and just enjoy marrying the person you love.
Another non-traditional idea is to “trash” the dress after the big day. More and more brides are opting to use their dresses creatively in a photo shoot after the wedding ceremony. They choose a setting that destroys the wedding dress as the newlyweds take an adventure together.
Change the Dress Code: Break Away From the DJ: Not everyone loves to dance, so don’t feel obliged to have a DJ or band. Provide entertainment that you will enjoy, even if it’s not the norm. If you have a theme, you can match the entertainment to the theme. Examples include belly dancing, break dancing, a jazz sax player, old movie film clips and music, trivia games, casino games, video games, singers, magicians, or any type of competition. Laser tag, anyone?
Bridesmaids dresses come in a variety of sleek and sophisticated styles (both long and short), and in practically any color imaginable. The best part is they cost a fraction of the price of those traditional bridal gowns a few aisles over.
